Over the course of two days, Monday, July 30 and Tuesday, July 31st, PLEA in partnership with the PPD held a blood drive in honor of Phoenix Officer Shawn George who was involved in an on duty traffic collision on Thursday, July 19th, which left him in critical condition.
On Monday, July 30, a blood drive was hosted at the PLEA office followed by another on Tuesday, July 31, at the Black Mountain Precinct. United Blood Services brought all of the needed equipment along with complete teams of personnel to run the drive.
Combined results over the two days were:
157 successful donations yielding 126 units of whole blood and 31 units of power red.
According to United Blood Services, the blood donated over these two days will be utilized to help approximately 471 hospital patients.
PLEA was happy to partner in this event for a very worthy cause. Special thanks to Officer Luz Fernandez who was instrumental in organizing and coordinating the whole operation.
On a separate note, we are happy to report that Officer George is making significant strides in recovering from his injuries.
PLEA would like to thank all who participated to make this event a success to include all of the public safety personnel and citizens who stepped up to donate.
