On Wednesday, August 23, 2017, PLEA Charities once again demonstrated how we care for the community by hosting a Back to School event at Sunridge Elementary School, located at 6244 West Roosevelt Street.
Thanks to gracious donations totaling $5000 from Phoenix Walmart stores 3771, 5331, 5189, and 2515, PLEA was able to provide supplies to over 600 students and 34 teachers. Each student received a backpack with a PLEA Charities logo which contained folders, notebooks, a pencil box, pens, pencils, crayons, erasers, a glue stick, and dry erase markers, while teachers received bags containing tissues, hand sanitizer, cleaning wipes, white board markers, glue sticks, scissors and zipper lock bags.
The backpacks and teacher’s bags were handed out during two separate assemblies facilitated by school principal Chad Ostrom. Pre-K through first grade attended the first assembly, while the second assembly was for grades 2-5.
A special thanks goes out to Officer James Rodriguez, Officer Terry Laaker, and Commander Ed DeCastro of the Maryvale-Estrella Mountain Precinct, who despite working a late shift in Downtown Phoenix due to President Trump’s visit, were able to attend the event and hand out backpacks to the student.
