Call to Action Update

On Wednesday, December 2, 2015, both PLEA and United Phoenix Firefighters Local 493 made a joint presentation to the Phoenix City Council regarding negotiations, which will start in January.

This presentation, which was the first time in eight years that PLEA has done such a thing prior to negotiations,  showed the City Council that unlike what happened in 2014, they will not divide and conquer Public Safety.

This presentation was about your future and why we cannot continue to take concessions as we have for the past 3 contracts, which translates to 6 years without a raise, continually doing more with less.

This was the kickoff event for the upcoming contract cycle and the City Council needed to know that you care about your pay and benefits and you needed to let them know you are not going to let them continue concessions without a fight.

Thanks to the members who were able to join us at that meeting and for showing the City Council we mean business and can’t continue down this path with the practice of the City balancing its budget on the backs of City employees, while neighboring cities, who have similar economic scenarios, are able to give their employees wage and benefit increases.

“United we stand.  Divided we fall.”

The above video shows the joint PD/Fire presentation made by Phoenix Fire Captain PJ Dean and PLEA Chief Negotiator Will Buividas followed by remarks from PPSLA President Sean Mattson and PLEA President Ken Crane.
