Farewell Detective Hobbs

On Monday March 3, 2014 at approximately 1500 hours, Detective John Hobbs along with Detectives “AJ” Casados and Mike Miller were engaged in a deadly confrontation with a violent felon wanted for homicide at 4300 W. Bethany Home Rd.  John and his partner, AJ, sustained serious injuries as a result of the gunfight that ensued with the suspect.  Despite being mortally wounded at the outset, Detective Hobbs stayed in the fight and engaged the suspect with multiple rounds from his M4 carbine.  Hobbs’ action along with those of Detectives Casado and Miller put an end to the threat posed by the suspect.

Unfortunately, due to the extent and nature of injuries sustained, John was unable to prevail in this final battle and passed away while undergoing emergency treatment at St. Joseph’s medical center.  Funeral services, heavily attended by family, friends, community members, and law enforcement officers from across the state and the nation were held at Christ Church of the Valley on Monday March 10th.  Detective Hobbs was then transported to his final resting place at Phoenix Memorial Park.  Detective Hobbs is survived by his wife and three young children.

PLEA would like to thank the community for their tremendous and continued outpouring of support for the Hobbs and Casado families as well as for all Phoenix Police Officers during this difficult time.  Your support, thanks and words of encouragement are of great value and importance to us.

Persons wishing to assist the Hobbs or Casado families can make donations in their names to PLEA Charities (501C.3) where 100% of funds donated will be given to the families.  For donation information contact the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association directly at 602-246-7869 or CLICK HERE to navigate directly to the PLEA Charities web page.
