On May 18, 2016, Phoenix Police Officer David Glasser, 8144, and other members of the 81X Squad, a Neighborhood Enforcement Team assigned to the Maryvale Estrella Mountain Precinct responded to call of a burglary in progress in the area of South 51st Avenue and West Baseline Road. Officer Glasser was shot and critically wounded during that incident and died of his injuries the following day.
Officer Glasser’s squad is planning to travel to Washington, DC so they can participate in Police Week, which will be from May 14-20, and attend the Candlelight Vigil at the National Law Enforcement Memorial, where his name will be added to the memorial along with other officers killed in the line of duty in 2016.
In order to raise funds for the 81X Squad and Glasser family, a Heckler and Koch MR556A1 rifle will be raffled off on March 11, 2017 at a fundraiser barbecue being held at the Phoenix Police Department’s Air Unit hangar, located at 102 East Deer Valley Road. Tickets are available online or they can be purchased from members of the 81X Squad. ALL proceeds from the raffle will go to the Glasser family and this effort.
Note that while this raffle is open to the public, winners are subject to a background check to determine eligibility for legal transfer of the rifle.
