PLEA continues to reach out to City Council members as part of our mission to find ways to adequately staff the Phoenix Police Department at the national average level of 2.5 officers per one thousand people.
On Friday, January 13, 2017, PLEA President Ken Crane and PLEA Secretary Frank Marino met with District 5 Councilman Danny Valenzuela, a former member of the City’s Public Safety Subcommittee, to discuss some of the issues and challenges we are facing in regards to keeping the Department staffed and meeting recruiting goals.
Councilman Valenzuela was very receptive and expressed genuine concerns about not only the current staffing levels and recruiting efforts, but the sheer geographical size of the City, which is often overlooked as a factor when precinct boundaries are considered and response times are calculated. He looks forward to working together and implementing both short and long-term plans to resolve the issue.
PLEA will continue to reach out to members of the City Council as part of our efforts to ensure our Police Department has adequate staffing to safely and efficiently carry out our core mission of protecting the public and we will keep you advised of our efforts and progress.
