On Tuesday March 4th, 2014, Mayor Jim Lane of Scottsdale denied a citizens request for a moment of silence during a regularly scheduled City Council meeting to honor Phoenix Detective John Hobbs who was killed in the line of duty less than 24 hrs prior. On March 5th, PLEA immediately sent a letter of protest to Mayor Lane. The story was picked up by numerous local and even some national media outlets.
On Monday March 17, 2014, Mayor Lane sent a letter of apology to PLEA. Although a bit late in the game, PLEA accepts the Mayors apology.
