PLEA board members Dave Kothe, Joe Clure, and Jerry Gannon met with Executive Assistant Chief Joe Yahner, Assistant Chiefs Anderson and McClelland, and Labor Relations Administrator Lori Stewart. In this meeting the following issues were discussed:
- PLEA will be submitting a pilot program for private purchase of rifles for patrol. The Department plans for an additional 200 City rifles. Right now there are 615 rifles in the City with 299 of these in patrol.
- The Department is planning to put the Centralized Booking Detail on a 3/13 schedule with no service available on Sundays. Staffing of this detail will work through junior personnel on up for 6 month rotations and will be open for permanent transfers to senior officers/detectives interested in having TFSS or SMTW off.
- Watch caps can be worn inside of vehicles. In addition, serious issues are being found with the work product of some PSB investigators. The IRP process is not being utilized effectively by PSB management. It has been communicated to PLEA that citizens on the DRB feel that they are “wasting their time” due to the poor work product coming out of PSB – DRB’s are sending PSB investigations back.
