On March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day) at 9:00am PLEA met with City Manager David Cavazos and Assistant City Manager Ed Zuercher to discuss various City business issues. Joe Clure, Will Buividas, and Mark Spencer reassured Mr. Cavazos and Mr. Zuercher of the value of the partnership PLEA holds with the City. The City was and is grateful for PLEA’s presence at the legislature as the Association continues to support budget issues and plans which propel Phoenix forward out of a string of challenging economic years. The success of the transfer program to the Centralized Booking Detail was well received as the attractiveness of a 3/13 work schedule for senior officers was proven to be true. Mr. Cavazos communicated support for patrol being allowed the option to wear POLICE placards on their outer vest carriers and the implementation of a pilot program for the personal purchase of rifles. We assured Mr. Cavazos and Mr. Zuercher that PLEA would be in contact with Interim Chief Yahner to facilitate his success in quickly implementing these simple, common sense member requests.
