On January 8th, 1986, Officer Fike was shot and killed by an assailant at point blank range as he stood beside his patrol car. Two citizens saw the officer lying in a parking lot beside his car and radioed the police dispatcher for help. Officer Fike had been “Officer of the Year” in the Squaw Peak Precinct in 1982. He was a ten year veteran of the Phoenix Police Department and forty-three years old at the time of his death. Officer Fike was survived by his wife and two young sons.
