On Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at 3:00 p.m., the Phoenix City Council met in general session at Council Chambers. One of the agenda items to be discussed (item 39E) was whether or not the city should authorize payment in the amount of $49,000 to pay the legal expenses for Police Chief Jack Harris in order for him to defend his position in his pension lawsuit. PLEA, along with other citizens, spoke in opposition to wasting valuable taxpayer dollars to pay legal bills for Chief Harris’ personal decision. The final council vote was a close 5-4 vote in favor of paying: FOR; Gordon, Johnson, Nowakowski, Mattox and Simplot. OPPOSED; DiCiccio, Williams, Gates and Neely (telephonic vote).
