PLEA is aware of a nationwide recall involving more than 38,000 Chevrolet Impala police vehicles, which may have weak lower control arms in 2008-2012 models. Currently, the recall is in its preliminary stages and General Motors will send out the VINs of all vehicles in the recall to the affected agencies. The City of Phoenix’s Equipment Management Division is monitoring the situation through their dealer network and the Police Department’s Fleet Manager has sent out a notice to Administrative Sergeants and Equipment coordinators. As of now, Equipment Management has not seen any cracked control arms in our fleet during scheduled preventive maintenance and repair inspections other than impact damage. PLEA will keep you advised on this issue. Any questions or concerns may be directed to PLEA Secretary Frank Marino via email.
