PLEA has recently received inquiries with regard to rumors that have been circulating on a couple of different topics. The first rumor is that a decision is being made to transition the department back to 9mm handguns. The second rumor is that the old style PPD breast badge will be will be completely eliminated for wear and that only the newer LAPD shield style will be authorized for wear. PLEA was at a breakfast meeting with Chief Garcia this morning (10/29/12) and asked him about both issues. We were assured that neither rumor had any validity to it.
